Special Needs/Adaptive Equipment


Adaptive Computer Workstations

One is located near the Reference Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. Features: Connect Outloud screen reader (with headphones), ZoomText screen enlarger, adjustable height table for wheelchair access, large trackball mouse with click-lock, two keyboards (standard and large keys).

Another is located in the Library Instruction Room, PL-2005. Features: Connect Outloud screen reader (with headphones), ZoomText screen enlarger, adjustable height table for wheelchair access, large trackball mouse with click-lock.

Sorenson Videophone

Sorenson Video Relay Service (SVRS) is a free 24-hour service for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community that enables anyone to conduct video relay calls with family, friends, or business associates. Calls are placed and received through a professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter via high-speed internet connection. This unit is located on the 2nd floor of the Library (new wing) across from the elevators.

Visualtek Voyager

Displays enlarged text (book, periodicals, or other documents) on a video screen. This unit is located on the 2nd floor of the Library (new wing) across from the elevators.

Audio Books

The Library has a collection of "audio books," which can be checked out for 2 weeks. A listing of these can be located in the Library's catalog, by searching for the phrase "Audiobooks" in the subject heading field. Included in this collection are recorded versions of fiction and non-fiction titles; as well as recordings of plays, theatrical performances, and poetry; and old radio programs.

Braille Collection

The Library has a small collection in Braille, located on the 1st floor of the new wing. Included in this collection is Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language, Second College Edition. These are reference materials that are to be used on site in the Library.

Info Den/Music Listening Facility

Located on the 5th floor of the Library, in PL-5005. This area houses a collection of music cds, which are available for listening on site in this area. For more details, see http://www.lib.csusb.edu/about/infoden.cfm#about

ADA compliant and accessible from off-campus on a 24/7 basis. The Library's 80+ electronic research databases are also remotely accessible 24/7 to currently enrolled CSUSB students.

Ebooks

Ebooks are materials which may be viewed online by currently enrolled CSUSB students. These can be found at: http://www.lib.csusb.edu/book/ebooks.cfm. These materials are also available on a 24/7 basis.

The John M. Pfau Library is also equipped with automatic, electrically operated doors at both north and south entrance/exit points.

Those individuals needing special assistance (photocopying, retrieval of materials, reference/research assistance) are encouraged to contact Les Kong, Head of Public Services (909-537-5111, lkong@csusb.edu) at least 24 hours in advance to make arrangements.
